eHealth Africa Trains Journalists on Creating Websites

Kano, Nigeria — June 20, 2023 — As part of its effort to boost the digital capacity of its community, eHealth Africa today, 20th June 2023 trained journalists on the basics of how to create and design websites to further amplify their content in a bid to reach wider audiences.

The training is part of the eHA Academy initiative aimed to build the capacity of young people in the utilization of digital tools to solve local problems and promote digital solutions.

With over a decade of experience in developing and deploying digital solutions across the continent, eHA established the eHA Academy, a training arm that has been at the forefront of equipping individuals with software development skills for at least four years now. “The eHA Academy is a nine-month program with two phases: three months of intensive in-class live sessions followed by a six-months internship. Through a combination of engaging live sessions, videos, challenging assignments, and practical projects, we train students to acquire both theoretical knowledge and real-world experience, setting them on the path to success,” explains eHA Academy Technical lead, Jamil Galadanci.

He further emphasized the impact of the eHA Academy, stating, “The Academy has so far received 3057 applications across Africa since inception. Application for the next cohort kicks off in July 2023, and we call on media colleagues and the general public to apply via www.academy.ehealthafrica.org  and participate in this impactful program.”

The hybrid training led by the eHA Academy’s experienced in-house trainers in website creation and design, was conducted at the eHealth Africa’s Headquarters in Kano with other participants across Nigeria participating via online platforms. The training, which was largely practical, put participants through the step-by-step process of creating and designing simple websites. The training was very interactive with participants engaging the process all through via intellectual questions and comments, especially around the digitization of the media industry.

The media industry is constantly evolving, and journalists and media players need to keep up with the changing trends to remain relevant and competitive. One of the key trends in the industry is the use of technology and social media to disseminate news and information.

Thus we are optimistic that this training will bridge the digital knowledge gap and equip journalists in Kano with the necessary skills to improve their productivity and efficiency.  Also, we firmly believe that this training will serve as a valuable resource for media practitioners who seek to enhance their digital skills and remain competitive in an increasingly digitized world.

This is the beginning of consistent training and engagement with journalists that will foster better collaboration among media players and eHealth Africa.   We are excited about the prospect of this collaboration as part of our corporate social responsibility while we look forward to its successful impact in the media industry.
